TCM | Route I: Royal Health Care

The Beijing Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau have jointly launched five boutique routes for TCM health tourism in Beijing, hoping that people can go outdoors to pursue a healthy life and experience TCM culture.

Route I: Royal Health Care: The ancient and modern culture of the palace medicine

Highlights:

Explore palace medicine, experience the royal method of health care, and unravel the image of the imperial physicians in TV series. Let's find out what "tiger brace" is and have a look at the ancient and modern medical culture. It is advisable to bring children together.

01 Imperial Medicine Gallery of the Palace Museum

Imperial Medicine Gallery is located in the Yonghe Palace of the Palace Museum. The main hall in the front courtyard is named "Yonghe Hall" and the main hall in the back courtyard is named "Tongshun Hall".

In the Year of the Tiger, you can take a look at the medicines related to the character "Hu" (tiger) in Chinese herbal medicine. There is also an old object that many people have never heard of, and that is the "tiger brace", which related to a legend story of Chinese King of Medicine: Sun Simiao.

Tips: The Imperial Medicine Gallery is inside the Forbidden City, so you need to purchase a ticket to the Forbidden City first, and no additional entrance fee will be charged for the Imperial Medicine Gallery.

02 TCM Health Culture Garden in Ditan Park

TCM Health Culture Garden in Ditan Park is the first park in China themed on TCM health culture. Located in Ditan Park, it covers an area of 2.5 hectares. The TCM Health Culture Garden is located within the park, with the heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys as the main zones. With the five elements, five colors and five directions, and the water and land systems as the meridians, the whole park is connected into a complete "life body".

There are more than 3,000 trees of various types and nearly 100 kinds of herbs and medicinal plants in the garden. The fitness trail in the park is designed according to the principle of foot massage in TCM.

03 The Hall for Listening to Orioles

Located in the Summer Palace, the world-famous royal palace, the Hall for Listening to Orioles is situated at the southern foot of Wanshou Mountain, facing Kunming Lake in front of a long corridor. It was an important place for the Empress Dowager Cixi and her favored ministers to enjoy music and entertainment. Because of the beautiful sound of oriole birds, it was named "Hall for Listening to Orioles". The plaque was handwritten by the Empress Dowager Cixi herself.

As a time-honored Chinese restaurant, it is one of only a few restaurants in the country that offers "Ching and Han Royal Dynasty Feast". The restaurant has developed different styles of palace birthday banquets based on the meal menu of the Qing Dynasty "Longevity Kitchen", and there are hundreds of dishes.

04 Xiyuan Hospital

Located on the east side of the Summer Palace, Xiyuan Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the first large TCM hospital established by the government after the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Xiyuan is an important royal garden of the Ming Dynasty, named after the location west of the Forbidden City in Beijing.
