The Agricultural God Altar is located to the west of Yongdingmen in the southern section of Beijing's central axis and stands opposite the Temple of Heaven. This group of ancient buildings was built in 1420, the 18th year of the Yongle era of the Ming Dynasty, and was the place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties worshiped the ancestors and held the ceremony of cultivating the fields themselves. It is one of the well-preserved royal ritual architectural complexes in Beijing.
