Since its unique design, the National Stadium is also known as "The Bird's Nest". It is the place that hosted both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics,as well as the athletics competition and men's football final of the Summer Games.

As Beijing 2008 legacy venue, although there will be no sporting competition holding in 2022 Winter Olympics, the National Stadium will again become the site of the opening and closing ceremonies of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
