In the Ming Dynasty, Juyongguan had two peripheral passes, the southern one was called the South Pass and the northern one was the Badaling Pass (North Pass), and the pass city was located in the ravine (Guanqiu) north of the South Pass. The city has north and south gates, and the south gate is built with a barbican, and a channel penetrates into the north and south gates. It is surrounded by high mountains and lush forests. As early as the Jin Dynasty over 800 years ago, this place was listed as one of the eight scenic spots in Beijing, known as "Juyong Diecui".
