According to legend, a young man named Zhao Bai and a girl named Li Chun fell in love but couldn't keep each other. Years later, Zhao Bai returned to his homeland, but Chun had passed away due to her longing, and the heartbroken Zhao Bai became a monk. Zhao Bai piled up an earthen platform in the place where Chun often looked at him from afar, and buried his love with her. Many years passed, two trees grew on the platform, one Tsubaki tree and one Pine tree, and these two trees embraced each other tightly.
