Beijing Normal University (BNU) grew out of the Education Department of lmperial University of Peking established in 1902, which initiated teacher training in China's higher education.

Beijing Normal University is a century-old institution with a profound atmosphere like a Chinese painting, which not only has a fresh and beautiful campus environment, but also nurtures rich cultural heritages.

The "BNU Star" memorial sculpture is located in the southwest of the Yingdong Education Building. In 2001, an asteroid numbered 8050 discovered by the Beijing Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was named "BNU Star" to celebrate the centennial of Beijing Normal University, which has made outstanding contributions to advanced education in China.
