Simatai Great Wall

2021-10-16

Simatai Great Wall is located in Gubeikou Town, northeast of Miyun County, Beijing. It is the only ancient architectural site in China that retains the original appearance of the Ming Dynasty. The whole section of the Great Wall is ingenious in conception, strange in design, novel in structure and different in shape, which can be called the essence of the Great Wall. It was included in the World Heritage List in 1987 and is a national key cultural relics protection unit.

The Simatai Great Wall starts from Wangjing Tower in the east and ends at Houchuankou in the west, with a total length of 5.4 kilometers. There are 35 watchtowers and 20 of which are completely preserved, including the Wangjing Tower, which is nearly 1,000 meters above sea level and has an excellent view of Beijing. It is also the only Great Wall that is open at night (17:30-21:00). You can climb the Great Wall at night and overlook the brightly lit Beijing city.

The wall is built according to the precipitous mountains, and is famous for its strange, special and dangerous features. Professor Luo Zhewen, a famous Great Wall expert, once praised it that the Simatai Great Wall can be called the best part of the Great Wall of China.
