Beijing HanMeiLin Art Museum

2021-10-16

Kai Cui, a well-known Chinese architect, created the Beijing HanMeiLin Art Museum. His architectural concept is that the location and shape of the art gallery have a significant impact on Liyuan Park's area as an integral part of the Cultural Theme Park. If we consider the entire park to be a natural landscape painting, the art gallery functions as a traditional Chinese seal that is placed only when the picture is completed. The relationship between the seal and the painting is analogous to the relationship between the art gallery and the park. They are both necessary and complementary to one another. Given that Chinese calligraphy and seal cutting are also aspects of Mr. Han's artistic production, the designer chose the Chinese character for "beauty" (美 Mei) as the art gallery's graphic design prototype. Looking down from above, the entire art gallery has the shape of a "美"; consequently, the strokes of the Chinese calligraphic character indicate the architecture's functional area. Notably, the word "beautiful" (美 Mei)  is also the second word in Han Meilin's name, and it can be interpreted as reflecting aesthetics and artistic beauty. These explanations are both realistic and abstract in nature.
