Baqidong (Ba means "8" in Chinese) is located in Beijing's Mentougou District, about 500 meters from the famed Tanzhe Temple.
It is renowned as a "heavenly creation, a wonderful cave" because of its distinctive folded "8" look and eight miracles. According to legend, "first there was Tanzhe Temple, then there was Youzhou City."
Numerous monks were preaching in this region of Tanzhe Temple when Buddhism was first introduced to Yancheng during the Jin Dynasty, therefore there are many god-like sculptures of Buddha in the cave, and pictures that demonstrate monks practicing.
