Famous Spots on Metro Line 14 | Marco Polo Bridge

2021-09-22

Marco Polo Bridge, also known as the Lugou Bridge, used to be the main ferry crossing in southern Beijing. Its stone lions, architectural structure and excellent places to enjoy the moon make it one of the sightseeing spots in Beijing. On July 7, 1937, the soldiers of 29 army fired the first shot of the comprehensive anti-Japanese war here, and the bullet marks on the bridge are still faintly visible. Marco Polo Bridge is 266.5 meters long, spanning more than 800 years of history. The stone lions in Lugou Bridge have different postures. There are white marble stone tablets at the east and west ends of the bridge, and the tablet with “Lugouxiaoyue” inscription of Emperor Qianlong in the east. “Lugouxiaoyue” (means there is a beautiful moon above the Lugou Bridge) is one of the Eight Great Sights of Yanjing (the old name of Beijing), which has attracted Chinese and international tourists for hundreds of years.
