2021-09-21

Baoguo Temple, also called Baoguosi, is a Buddhist Temple that was first constructed during the Liao Dynasty and is now referred to as the southern part of downtown Beijing. During the Ming Dynasty, it was used to host members of the royal family. By the early Qing Dynasty, Baoguo Temple had already been turned into a popular bazaar for books and flowers, so it is more like an antique marketplace. Yet still, it keeps the appearance of a temple. The temple has three halls, two of which as well as the buildings circling the temple wall are used as warehouses or showrooms. Now Baoguo Temple has expanded to include the market of antique curios, souvenirs and gifts, coins and stamps. Traders there also sell miscellaneous items as jade, Buddha statues, old books, calligraphy works, and paintings, etc..
