Railway Station

There are five major railway stations in Beijing including Beijing Railway Station, Fengtai Railway Station, Beijing West Railway Station, Beijing North Railway Station and Beijing South Railway Station.

Beijing Railway Station

The history of Beijing Railway Station can be traced back to 1901 when it started to build, and it was established in 1903. In September 1949, the station changed its name to Beijing Railway Station that is still in use today.

Beijing Railway Station mainly serves transportation of Beijing-Baotou, Beijing-Qinhuangdao, Beijing-Harbin, Beijing-Shanghai and so on. The station also has international railway lines including Beijing-Pyongyang, Beijing-Moscow and others. It is not only the important window of Beijing, but also an important of China. Before the establishment of Beijing West Railway Station that was founded in 1996, Beijing Railway Station was the biggest and most advanced railway station in China.

Subway line 2 passes by the train station in the north, and the subway station has four exits: Exit C & D for exiting and Exit A & B for entering. Beijing South Railway Station (line 4), Beijing West Station (line 9) and Beijing North Railway Station (line 2 & 4).

Beijing West Railway Station

Located in Fengtai District, Beijing West Railway Station consists an important part of Beijing railway hub. Putting into operation in January 21, 1996. the station covers an area of 510,000 square meters with 70,000 square meters of construction area.

The station adopts the mode that people enter from the ground and exit from the underground. It has 13 waiting rooms which can accommodate 25,000 people at the same time.

Beijing West Railway Station has both manual ticket windows and ticket vending machines, providing people more choices and convenience.

Beijing North Railway Station

Started to build in 1905, Beijing North Railway Station was once named as Xizhimen and was an important station of Beijing - Zhangjiakou railway which was the first railway designed by China itself. In 1988, the station changed its name as Beijing North Railway Station.

Beijing South Railway Station

The history of Beijing South Railway Station can be traced back to 1897. The appearance of the station is an oval structure, looking like a disk from the distance. The main building material is silver metal aluminum plate, and the inspiration of its design comes from Hall of Prayer of Good Harvests.

Beijing South Railway Station has five layers, with two layers above the ground and three below the ground. The station has both manual and self-service ticketing system. Besides, there are plenty of restaurants, bookstores and shops in the station.
