Chinese Pear Herbal Tonic Soup

2020-10-23

Perhaps many Chinese people have a piece of childhood memory like this:

In the dry autumn air, people are more likely to cough. Mommy or granny would come back home with a large bag of pears, and you may wonder why they cut all of them. Soon, a delicious potful of pear soup would be simmering on the stove. The first golden spoonful of deliciously sweet, soothing and light soup is unforgetable, and it magically cures your sniffles and cough!

Here, we have a Grandma's Recipe of Chinese Pear Herbal Tonic Soup for you! Try it by yourself!

Ingredients:

3-4 asian pears

1/3 cup Fritillary Bulb

10 apricots

6 honey dates

Directions:

Clean and peel pears.  Slice them into bite sized chunks.  Add all ingredients into a large pot and add enough drinking water to cover all of them by 2 inches.  Boil over medium heat for 30 mins.  Add boiling water if there's not enough in the pot.  Simmer over low heat for another hour.

The soup is naturally sweetened by the pears and dates, and you can and should eat everything in this soup!
