World-renowned Mariinsky Ballet to hit Beijing stage

The Mariinsky Ballet, a world-renowned classical ballet company based in Saint Petersburg, Russia, is set to hit the stage of the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing on the evening of Dec. 1, according to the NCPA.

The Russian ensemble will perform selections from the 20th-century ballets Chopiniana, Scheherazade and The Firebird, which were choreographed by the great Russian ballet master Michel Fokine from 1908 to 1910.

Founded in the 18th century, the Mariinsky Ballet is the resident ballet company of the Mariinsky Theater in Saint Petersburg and one of the world's leading ballet companies.

The Mariinsky Ballet is closely linked with the entire history of European choreographic art. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the company was famed for its plethora of star performers.
