108 National Highway is known as one of “the most wonderful highways for self-driving”. 108 National Highway (Beijing Section) runs westward at Fuxingmen. Along this route, you can meander through Gongzhufen, Wukesong, Yamenkou, Wolonggang and enjoy the mountain road at the end of the section. This road features beautiful scenery and many scenic spots, and is an important route for leisure travel in Beijing.

Mentougou Scenic Spots

• Tanzhe Temple and Jietai Temple

The grand Tanzhe Temple covers a property area of 2.5 hectares and surrounding area of 11.2 hectares outside. It boasts a total area of more than 121 hectares with the surrounding forest and mountains owned by it. The palaces and halls of the temple are orderly built in accommodating the terrain of the mountain. Jietai Temple (also called Jietan Temple) is famous for its “precept platform, strange pine and old cave”. It is one of three precept platforms.

• Shuanglong Gorge

Shuanglong Gorge is 78 kilometers from downtown Beijing. You can witness brooks, waterfalls, a wide stretch of apricot orchard and forests. It boasts green mountains, verdurous valleys, and towering ridges and peaks. In autumn, the mountains present munificent offerings, as well as red leaves that greet your eyes. In summer, you can engage in sandboarding, grass skating, angling, and rowing. You can also drive SUV, or have a bonfire, picnic, barbecue, and other programs.

• Jingxi Ancient Route

Jingxi Ancient Route is like a large network across Mentougou in horizontal and vertical directions. Many long and interconnected ancient routes are mainly used in commercial service, military and incense. The commercial route has more historical relics than other routes, which is still charming in spite of dilapidated scene after a few hundred years.
