"Wonderful Indonesia," a tourism promotion program jointly organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and China International Travel Service (CITS), kicked off in Beijing on June 15.

Nia Niscaya, the Deputy Minister of International Marketing in Indonesia, attended the opening ceremony of the activity and delivered a speech. "Last year, Indonesia received 15.8 million tourists from all over the world including China market contributing 14 percent of tourists, that makes China one of the biggest outbound market for the country," said Niscaya, adding that the number would be growing year by year.

In addition, a new program namely "Tourism Hub" rolled out by the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism aims to utilize Singapore as a hub to maximize arrivals of Chinese tourists into the country since Singapore has a strong connectivity worldwide. At present, Indonesia's main tourist hub destinations are Batam Island and Bintan Island.

Indonesia is a huge nation comprised of hundreds of cultures derived from local regions, making it one of the most diverse countries in the world. Indonesia expects to gain a significant slice from China's enormous outbound market to meet its foreign tourist arrival target set at 20 million this year.
