2019-05-20

The Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition in Yanqing District has just opened, encouraging a green lifestyle and ecological reservation, while showcasing state-of-the-art gardens. Yanqing district has also embraced the international event by upping its water conservation efforts.

Five kilometers away from the Horticultural Exhibition is Yanqing’s Beijing Capital Longqing, a wastewater treatment company. Everyday the company produces 40,000 cubic meters of reclaimed water. 13,000 cubic meters of that water is used for gardening spray and toilet flush at the horticultural exhibition and nearby hotels. The remaining water goes to local industries and organizations. The company has generated 15 million tons of reclaimed water since it began operations in 2017.

To raise public awareness on the use of recycled water, Yanqing Beijing Capital Longqing has been designated as the district’s first water-saving education base.

During the 162 days of horticultural exhibition from April 20 to October 7, the water recycling company will provide the expo with 2.16 million cubic meters of reclaimed water.

Yanqing has been endeavoring to build a water-conservation district in recent years. Altogether, it has nine operational plants reclaiming water with a daily production capacity of 83,800 cubic meters of water. Local industry and villages have also installed water-saving equipment and facilities. Local villagers have been guided to use drip irrigation.
