Longmenjian Canyon

Situated to the northwest of Yanjiatai Village, Qingshui Township, Mentougou District, Longmenjian is 90km away from Beijing’s downtown. 15km long, it is Beijing’s longest and one of China’s a handful of lava landform canyons. Here, exuberant vegetation can be seen everywhere. Yet, due to a shortage of sunshine all year round, the canyon bottom is 5℃ to 8℃ lower in temperature. If you want to experience the miracle of the nature, Longmenjian Canyon is the very spot. With a deep and winding canyon, every step and every vista here offers unique beauty, making you linger on without any thought of leaving. Taizimu Village

Taizimu Village of Yanchi Town is the place of production of “Taizi apple”. Legend has it that, back in the years under the reign of the Yongle Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, the prince on an imperial visit to Western Hills ever made a stop here and took to local ultimately delicious yet too small crabapple. Hence, he had his minions to graft crabapple trees into apple trees to bear fruits with the taste of crabapple and the size of apple. To express gratitude towards the prince’s attention to local agriculture, locals called the new-type fruit tree Taizimu (prince tree). Touched by locals’ quality to pay back others for their help, the prince showed great respect for the simple and honest people here. So, literati of the time polished Taizimu (prince tree) as Taizimu (prince’s admiration). Later, the prince was buried here after death. So, people called the place Taizimu (prince’s tomb). With time, it became the name of the village. Although it is just a legend, the apple growing here definitely lives up to its reputation. If you doubt about that, come here and have a try!
