The first tramcar was introduced to Beijing in 1924 and connected Qianmen in the city center with Xizhimen on the central west side. In the era of Old Beijing, the cars were known as “dangdang che” for the bells they would ring to alert passengers of oncoming cars.

The tramcar running through Qianmen resembles the vintage Dang Dang Che for tourists to experience old Beijing culture.
