Hotel Jen Beijing is excited to announce brand-new sessionable summer ale Brews Brothers, which will be available starting on Tuesday 24th April with an hour of free flow pours from 6-7pm, along with their regular all-day Thirsty Tuesday Buy One Get One Free happy hour at Beersmith.
Inspired by the Piña Colada cocktail, Brews Brothers is a light ale brewed with coconut and Mosaic hops. Hints of pineapple and a tropical fruity finish ensure Brews Brothers goes down extra easy during balmy summer days and nights.
The launch of Brews Brothers marks the first collaboration between two Shangri-La’s brew masters from Hotel Jen Beijing’s Beersmith and Shangri-La Midtown Hangzhou’s Midtown Brewery.For the project, head brewer at Midtown Brewery ventured to Beijing to work with Beersmith’s brewmaster Tom Ashton.
Originally from New Zealand, Ashton has worked with some of the country’s most-awarded breweries before moving to China in 2014. He’s managed top breweries between Shanghai and Beijing, combining technical experience with passion now reflected in Beersmith’s brewing philosophy and the range of beers on offer.
Currently brewmaster at Midtown Brewery, Eric White’s work in the beer industry has led him from Kuwait’s dry countryside to the United States and Scotland, among other stops along the way. White uses the Hangzhou’s vibrant spirit for inspiration and loves incorporating domestic culinary ingredients to his recipes.

Midtown Brewery is an up-market gastropub offering specialty craft beer, innovative small plates and live music. Resident brewmaster Eric White presents an ever-changing selection of ales, pale ales, porters, lagers and stouts inspired by local ingredients and flavours. About Beersmith at Hotel Jen Beijing
The only gastropub in Beijing’s Guomao area, Beersmith is located on the first floor of Hotel Jen Beijing and brews a selection of over 12 craft beers in-house inspired by both local and international flavours. Since opening in May 2017, Beersmith has been an ideal place for friends and colleagues to gather and unwind after work or on weekends.
Every season, Beersmith brewmaster launches new craft beers or seasonal inspirations. Last year, Beersmith’s Porter was awarded a Gold Medal and their IPA was awarded a Bronze Medal at the International Brewmaster Competition held annually in Japan.
Beersmith also serves casual western comfort food available from 11am to 1am daily, featuring favourites like the Wagyu Beef Cheeseburger, Porter-Marinated Pork Ribs as well as steaks, salads and other classic pub grub. A daily two-course lunch special offers a selection of western and Asian dishes for 88RMB, which includes a beer or drink of choice.
