2018-04-27

Young Chinese artist Ouyang Sulong was unveiled as one of the latest winners of the Yishu 8 China Finalists Award on Saturday.

According to Christine Cayol, founder of Yishu 8, the award aims to promote high level art creation and discover new artists.

Each year, the jury committee selects three young artists from a large group of nominated artists and displays their works at the Yishu 8 space in Beijing.

Ouyang and the two other finalists, Fang Di and Chen Zhe, will have their work put on display at the gallery until May 12.

Born in 1987, Ouyang is showcasing several of his works for the exhibit including Untitled and Shadow.

"In Ouyang's works, man is a substance that can vibrate. He makes man a mobile material, therefore blurring the borders between the living and the inanimate. His works, without the perspective of identity, measure urban functional spaces by means of immersion and are suggestive of a depersonalized air of neo-materialism," wrote Fu Xiaodong, the curator of the exhibition, in the introduction to Ouyang's works.
