Longtan Temple Fair during Spring Festival in Beijing is a traditional folk culture event that integrates folk arts, religious beliefs, material exchange and culture and entertainment. Since 1984 that saw its inception, the temple fair has gone through 35 years and become a traditional large-scale mass cultural activity during the Spring Festival of Beijing. The event thereforeis quite influential at home and enjoys reputation abroad.

Longtan Spring Festival Cultural Temple Fair comprises seven major exhibition areas, including Building Better Life Together, Sports on Ice and Snow, Intangible Cultural Heritages, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Specialties, Recreation and Sports Interaction, the Belt and Road, and Beijing Culture. During the fair, over 80 shows of Chinese folk art forms including outstanding folk Huahui, cross talks and singing, Hebei acrobatics and Tianjin Quyi (Chinese folk art forms; including ballad singing, story-telling, comic dialogues, clapper talks, cross talks, etc.) will be staged; four interactive activities, namely ice carnival, weiqi contest (a game played with black and white pieces on a board of 361 crosses), self-media photography during temple fair, Jinmen haoyun (good luck when entering a door), will be held; 5 exhibitions including "Winter Olympics", “the Belt and Road", “Travel with Civility," "Paintings and drawings of old-timey Beijing” and " Traditions during Spring Festival in Old Beijing” will be displayed.

In order to fully embody the concept of diversified participation, mutual sharing and coordinated development, Building Better Life Together, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Specialties, and the Belt and Road sections of the Longtan Temple Fair will launch fairs and sales of the specialties of Chengdu and Xinjiang and other provinces, featuring Huade County of the Inner Mongol Autonomous Region and Yunyang District, Shiyan City of Hubei Province which are helped by Dongcheng District in poverty alleviation to introduce their tourism resources and local special products.The events will also introduce Tianjin’s and Hebei’s time-honored brands, special food, display their traditional handicrafts, and promote Winter Olympic characteristic tourism and culture of Zhangjiakou City, in addition to showcasing the special snacks and crafts of Turkey, Thailand, Nepal and other nations.

Besides, the ice-themed carnival of the Longtan Temple Fair will be staged in a 30,000 m2 creative snow theme park this year, marking a breakthrough and innovation in the snow landscape and ice sports once again. The Temple Fair sets up thirteen creative entertainment areas. In addition to the traditional games like snow surfing, taking tanks on snowfield, ice cycling and ice sledging, it will add new games such as “Longtan” Train and Dreaming Whale Island this year. These games will combine snow and ice sports, Olympic spirits, cultural interests and game activities to bring a better experience for tourists.
