Enigmatic Zhongshan

Location: The Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture

Time: Jan. 31, 2018 - May 6

Zhongshan, previously known as "the mystery kingdom", was a small state that existed during the Warring States period (475-221 BC), when various rival Chinese states battled viciously for territorial advantage but lived very short lifespans. Zhongshan was unusual in that despite being such a small nation, it managed to survive for almost 120 years. However, due to a paucity of references in historical texts, information on the state of Zhongshan had in the past been limited to fragments of data.

The mysterious Zhongshan has been unclosed since the tomb of King Cuo (327-312 BC), the fifth ruler of Zhongshan, and was discovered in Sanji Village in Pingshan County, north China's Hebei Province in 1978. The exhibition will showcase more than 70 sets of relics unearthed from the tomb of King Cuo, revealing the daily life and custom of the people in the Warring States period.
