The caravans and the tinkling of camel bells may have disappeared, but hiking amongst the mountains and ancient villages could also offer you the peace that could only be found in melodious music.
Luopoling Village
Luopoling Station sits at the south bank of the Luopoling Reservoir. Nestled near the mountain and by the river, the station has become a major attraction for tourists. The Luopoling Reservoir, capable of holding 3,650,000m3 of water, is the regulating reservoir of Xiaweidian Hydropower Station. The reservoir is surrounded by peculiar peaks, bizarre rocks and serene canyons. It is also a popular destination for fishing enthusiasts. The Luopoling Reservoir is so tranquil that only the passing of the train and chirping of birds could be heard. It is a good retreat for those who are fed up with the hustle and bustle in the city.
Guanting West
Guanting West Station is not within the territory of Beijing. The Guanting Reservoir to the north of the station, though, sits on the border between Beijing and Hebei. Guanting Reservoir is crowned the pearl of the environs of Beijing. The reservoir is over 40km long stretching from the East to the West, and 1.5km to 7km wide stretching from the North to the South. The total area of the reservoir is 253km2. Dubbed “the Pearl beyond the Great Wall”, tourists are certainly to be wowed by its picturesque scenery.
The Guanting Reservoir is a place where tourists can row on the water while fully immerse themselves in the natural landscape. Close to the Guanting Reservoir is the sand land favored by various kinds of fruits rich in sugar. Tourists can also have a taste of the joy of harvesting by picking the fruits themselves.
