Beijing tops among Chinese overseas returnees

2017-08-18

Beijing has become the first choice for Chinese overseas returnees to start up businesses, especially in the field of IT, communications, electronic engineering, internet and finance, according to a report published by Zhaopin.com, one of China's leading recruitment websites, and the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), a leading Chinese independent think tank.

By the end of 2016, Chinese overseas returnees totaled 2.65 million. In 2016 alone, 432,500 Chinese students returned home after graduating overseas. The report showed that half of overseas returnees adjusted straight back into life in China by gaining employment while only 4.8 percent felt completely lost, much better than compared to 2015.

China has implemented many preferential policies for business startups, providing great opportunities for Chinese students returning from overseas study. Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Wuhan -- the top five cities for overseas returnees to start up businesses – have attracted nearly half of Chinese overseas returnees, the report said.
