China Naitional Theatre for Children was formerly the China National Children's Art Theatre of the People's Republic of China. It was founded in 1956 and the first president was REN Hong.

China Naitional Theatre for Children shoulders the responsibility of providing outstanding children's theatre works for the majority of young children, as well as that of the inheritance, development and innovation of the children's theatre arts. The National Children’s Art Theatre has trained several generations of artists and backbone in the children's theatre art of China and has won numerous art awards.

The Theatre has created and performed excellent children's theatre works many times with tours all over the country and has been to Singapore, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Australia and other countries for exchange performances.

Over the years, major works of the Theatre include Malan Flower, A Family of Revolutionaries, Young Guardians, In the Name of Revolution, Yueyun, Newsboy, A Little Courtyard Like This, 12 Months, Paul Korchagin, Flashing Stars, Zhiyazi, The Beginning of the Epoch and People and Moonlight Lullaby. In recent years, major works include Shangri-La, Approaching Shakespeare, Biscuit Boy, The Trip of Andersen, Little Tadpole Looking for Mom, Run, Rabbit!, Cinderella, The Grimm Brothers and the Magical Forest, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Little Jeep·Change, Change, Change, Pipi Stockings, Zodiac, Red Sofa Music City, Journey to the West, Sun Bird, Cube Building, Canned Man and Sky-blue Paper Airplane.

The Theatre's "China Children's Theatre" was inscribed by Soong Ching Ling. On the fourth floor of the Theatre in 2005, a Holiday Classic Theatre was created, interpreting classic story of all times on the theatrical stage with its relatively fixed performance time, mode and changes in a variety of styles. The establishment of the Holiday Classic Theatre is not only a new exploration in the field of artistic creation, but also a whole new attempt in performing and business philosophy.
