Located in the National Mall in Washington, D.C., the National Air and Space Museum holds the largest collection of historic aircraft and spacecraft in the world. Established in 1946, it is a center for research into the history and science of aviation and spaceflight, as well as planetary science and terrestrial geology and geophysics. The museum displays thousands of objects such as the 1903 Wright Flyer, Charles Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis, the Apollo 11 Command Module Columbia and a lunar rock which you can touch. Almost all space and aircraft on display are originals or the original backup craft.
