Chinese Roses Blooming in 13 Scenic Areas of Beijing

The Chinese rose holds its very special sentimental value to the people of Beijing. Since appearing at the sixth session of the 8th Beijing Municipal People’s Congress (BMPC) in 1987, the Chinese rose and chrysanthemum have held a special place in the hearts of Beijingers.

Themed “Green Field”, the Ninth China Rose Cultural Festival started in Beijing on May 18 and will stretch to the end of June. Around 25,000 mu (about 16.67 square kilometers) of roses and 50,000 (about 33.33 square kilometers) mu of chrysanthemum will make up the event where a variety of more than 2,300 and nearly 10 million Chinese roses will be on display. Moreover, 50 special activities will be promoted throughout the 13 scenic areas of the city.

1. World Rose Theme Park

The World Rose Theme Park rests on the bank of Dalong River at the central area of Weishanzhuang Town in Daxing District. It occupies an area of 657 mu (about 0.44 square kilometer) and is the first comprehensive park with the theme of Chinese Rose in Beijing. The park collects more than 1,700 varieties and nearly 70,000 Chinese roses in the world, one of the largest metropolitan parks in north China. The 2016 Regional Conference of World Federation of Rose Societies and International Ancient Rose Conference were held at the park from May 18 to 24.

2. Beijing Botanical Garden

As one of the organizers of the festival, the Beijing Botanical Garden has a Chinese rose garden with more than 1,200 varieties and over 100,000 Chinese roses, which are in full blossom and ready to welcome the tourists.

Activity: The Beijing Botanical Garden will send flowers to residential communities to beautify the environment for its citizens.

Transportation:

1) Take Subway Line 4 and get off at Beigongmen Station. Transfer to bus No. 563 or 331, get off at Zhiwuyuan Nanmen (the south gate of Beijing Botanical Garden) Station or Wofosi Station.

2) Take Subway Line 1 and get off at Pingguoyuan Station. Transfer to bus Yuntong 112 and get off at Wofosi Station.

3) Take bus No. 505 and get off at Wofosi Station.

4) Take bus No. 360, 318, 630, or 698 and get off at Zhiwuyuan (Botanical Garden) Station.

3. Temple of Heaven

The 36th Chinese Rose Expo is being held at the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest in the Temple of Heaven, which is decorated with 200 varieties of Chinese roses. Constructed in 1963, the Chinese rose garden covers an area of 13,000 square meters, making it the biggest open Chinese rose garden in China at the time.

4. Taoranting Park

There is a garden for Chinese roses in the west gate of the Taoranting Park, covering an area of 14,000 square meters. About 34 varieties and more than 23,000 Chinese roses in the garden are in full blossom at this time.

5. Beijing Nabobay Horticulture Co., Ltd

Beijing Nabobay Horticulture Co., Ltd focuses on the research and development, production and the sales of Chinese roses. Nabobay has built a 2,000-mu (about 1.33 square kilometers) Chinese rose production base with an annual output of 12 million Chinese roses, making it the largest export base in Beijing.

6. Fanhuaashjin Rose Valley

Founded in 2002, Beijing Fanhuaashjin Rose Valley Leisure Sightseeing Garden was built on the rose base for the Damask rose essential oil. The Damask roses are renowned for their fine fragrance, and are commercially harvested for rose oil used in perfumery. The rose base covers an area of 600 mu (about 0.4 square kilometer), which will offer a picturesque view for visitors.

Activities: A series of activities based on Damascus roses will be held, such as sightseeing, rose picking, treasure hunting, tasting and campfire party.

7. Caijiawa Rose Garden

The rose tree in Caijiawa Rose Garden is made with grafting technique, which brings together the tenderness of the rose and straightness of the tree. Roses in the tree bring a refreshed view for the tourists. When the blooming season arrives, the rich fragrance gladdens the heart and refreshes the mind. It’s the good time for you to take a rose trip!

8. Miaofeng Mountain Forest Park

On Miaofeng Mountain is Beijing's famous Wild Rose Valley. Each year beginning end of May to mid-June, the valley is festooned with countless rose blossoms, which form a forest of brilliant green leaves and branches dotted with pale and dark red roses and perfume the air with a strong lingering scents.

Activity: Rose-related food such as rose jam, rose cake will be offered.

9. Beijing International Flower Port

With an area of 12,000 square meters, the Chinese rose exhibition area will display roses of 5 colors and more than 10 varieties.

10. Beijing Garden Expo

There are five botanical gardens within the Beijing Garden Expo, including Chinese rose garden, lilac garden, peony garden, crape myrtle garden and sakura (cherry blossom) garden. The Chinese rose garden, covering an area of 3.6 hectares, has 70 varieties and 20,000 Chinese roses.

11. Ancient Chinese Rose Cultural Park

Ancient Chinese Rose Cultural Park is the first cultural park with the theme of ancient Chinese rose. With an area of 660 mu (about 0.44 square kilometers), it has 160 varieties of ancient roses and 2,000 varieties of modern roses totaling just over 200,000.

12. Beijing Love Sea Rose Cultural Expo Park

Activities: Activities with the theme of love, family, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day will be held.

13. Nanhaizi Park

As the largest wetland park in Beijing, it is the Nanhaizi Park’s first time to participate in the festival. Tens of thousands of Chinese roses will show up to welcome the tourists.
