China Watermelon Museum, the first specialized museum to display the culture of watermelon, is located in Panggezhuang Town. Panggezhuang watermelon enjoys a good reputation both nationwide and abroad with its excellent quality and famous brands. In order to promote watermelon culture and promote the rapid development of watermelon industry, Daxing District and Panggezhuang Town Government built the watermelon museum covering an area of 4,000 square meters, with an investment of more than 1.2 million yuan.

Shaped like a huge watermelon set off by two large green leaves, the museum’s architecture is uniquely eye-catching. Named “the flying watermelon” its design motif symbolizes the soaring production of watermelon in Daxing. Outside the wall of the main building there are reliefs that reflect the history of production of Chinese watermelon. It is the only watermelon museum in the world. Inside the museum, more than 300 pictures, exhibitions vividly display the history of watermelon cultivation, varieties of watermelon, and aspects of watermelon culture. The outdoor exhibition area of the museum has several dozen valuable watermelon varieties growing there.

The best time to visit the museum is summer, so that visitors not only are able to learn more about watermelon cultivation, but also to taste various types of watermelon from around the world. Visitors will learn about the cultivation of different types of watermelons, along with viewing comics, statues and paintings featuring the capital's favorite summer fruit.
