4 Highest Mountains in Beijing

Although Beijing is not as mountainous as Guizhou or Sichuan, it is still an area where you can find high mountains among so many that are just a few hundreds meters above sea level. In Beijing, the highest mountains are Lingshan Mountain, Haituo Mountain, Baicaopan and Baihua Mountain, which are ideal for mountaineers or hikers if they wish to explore the mountains in Beijing. 1. Lingshan Mountain

Lingshan Mountain (Chinese: 灵山): Altitude of its highest peak: 2,303 meters. This is the highest mountain in Beijing, situated between Zhuozhou county, Hebei province and Mentougou district, Beijing. In the mountain there are large areas of grasslands, birch groves, pine forests, and also leopards, wild goats, wild boars, mountain cats and other wildlife. In 1981, Tibetan and Gansu yaks were introduced and have adapted to the living condition here.

From downtown Beijing: 122 km

Admission: 35 yuan

Getting there: Take Subway Line 1 to Pingguoyuan, and get on Bus No. 929 to Shuangtangjian (foot of Lingshan Mountain). Note: This is only a reference and you may encounter different specific situations. The best option for each visitor is to book a private van or car to go there. If you drive, that’s much better.

2. Haituo Mountain:

Haituo Mountain (Chinese: 海坨山): Altitude of its highest peak: 2,241 meters, being the second highest peak in Beijing. Haituo Mountain is about 18 km away from the seat of Yanqing district and about 130 km away from downtown Beijing. The secret is the top of the mountain is a relatively large flat area, where nearly hundreds of tents can be set up. It is one of best spots to view sunrise.

Admission: Free, but each visitor needs to buy a bag for 10 yuan, which will be used to take away your own rubbish. On your return, you will be given back 5 yuan.

Getting there:

Take Express Bus No. 919 at Deshengmen Bus Station (morning: 5:50, evening: 19:00) or Bus No. 919 (Deshengmen Bus Station----Longqing Gorge) at Deshengmen Bus Station (morning 6:00, evening: 18:00) to the seat of Yanqing (about 90 minutes) and then get on a private car or van to the mountain.

3.Baicaopan

Baicaopan (Chinese: 白草畔): Altitude of its highest peak: 2,161 meters, being the third highest peak in Beijing. The mountain is situated between Fangshan district and Mentougou district.

Admission: 30 yuan

Opening hours: 7:30 - 19:00

Address: Simatai Village, Xiayunling Town, Fangshan District, Beijing

Getting there: Take Subway Line 1 to Pingguoyuan, get on Bus No. 892 to Baihua Mountain Lukou (百花山路口), and transfer to Bus No. M14 to Aiyushuangjianzi (艾峪双涧子).

4.Baihua Mountain

Baihua Mountain (Chinese: 百花山): Altitude of its highest peak: 2,049 meters, being the fourth highest peak in Beijing. Baihua Mountain is located between Fangshan Districts of Beijing and Laishui county, Hebei province.

Admission: 40 yuan

Opening hours: 7:30 - 18:00

Getting there: Take Subway Line 1 to Pingguoyuan, get on Bus No. 892 to Baihua Mountain Lukou (百花山路口), and transfer to Bus No. M14 to Zhangjiapu Baihua Mountain Scenic Area (张家铺百花山风景区).
