2015 World Junior Sudoku Championship to Kick off in Beijing

The 2015 World Junior Sudoku Championship (WJSC) will be held in Beijing Garden Expo Park from July 24 to 25, hoping to break the previous Sudoku Guinness World Record.

Sudoku, originally called Number Place, is a logic-based, combinatorial number-placement puzzle.

The modern Sudoku started to prosper in 1986 in Japan, and became common in Western countries at the beginning of the 21st century, and then spread across the world.China has been an active and competitive Sudoku-playing country, taking home numerous medals in recent years. The country has more than 20 million Sudoku amateurs, and its capital city, Beijing, has at least one million amateurs, according to incomplete statistics.

China will host the WJSC from 2015 to 2017, according to the resolution of the 2013 World Intelligence Network Assembly.

China’s Sudoku Association has held various contests to encourage participation and search for Sudoku geniuses to come to the international stage and compete in the WJSC.

Competitors in the 2015 WJSC in Beijing will be divided into three groups, including the under 21 group (U21), under 18 group (U18), and under 15 (U15). Individual and team competitions are both set for each age group.
