We've got a long holiday coming up for the combined Mid-Autumn Festival and National Holiday, but not everyone is hitting the road. If you're trying to save some cash by having a staycation, we've put together a few suggestions on things to see and do around Beijing that will help you relax and recharge.

Even if you've lived in Beijing for years, it's likely you still haven't seen all the temples around town. If you're looking for a place to engage in quiet contemplation, head to Fayuan Temple in the south of the city.

Not only is it one of the oldest temples in Beijing, but it's also the only one that we know of where monks still live. It's easy to spend hours enjoying the quiet courtyards and watching the monks go through their routines. To fill up the rest of your day, we recommend wandering through the little alleys of the surrounding neighborhood and dining at one of the many authentic Muslim restaurants in the area.
