2026-05-28

As temperatures gradually rise, the hot and sunny summer weather has arrived. This weekend, why not venture into the wild forests and mountains of Mentougou, encounter the romantic sea of alpine roses, experience the intangible cultural heritage atmosphere of the century-old ancient temple fair, and start a one-stop leisurely weekend slow travel journey.

Day 1: Miaofeng Shan (Mountain) → Miaofengshan Golden Summit Xishen Vegetarian Restaurant → Shenquan Gorge Scenic Area → Specialty Homestay

Miaofeng Shan (Mountain)

On May 30th, the Alpine Rose Tourism Season at Miaofengshan will officially kick off, and the 33rd Traditional Folk Temple Fair is also in full swing, with many exciting activities gathering in the mountains. The best viewing season here is from late May to June every year. The alpine roses spread across the hillsides, forming a magnificent sea of flowers. Climbing up for a distant view, you can also take in the panoramic view of Beijing city. By evening, the rose terraces are bathed in the warm honey color of the setting sun, accompanied by clouds and rosy skies, creating a mesmerizing scene.

The traditional folk temple fair at Miaofeng Shan (Mountain) began in the mid to late Ming Dynasty, with a history of over 400 years, and is a national intangible cultural heritage. The fair, themed "Miaofeng Folk Customs Inherit Ancient Charm ・ Western Beijing Blessed Land for Peace (妙峰民俗承古韵・京西福地佑平安)," runs from May 17th to May 31st. During the event, traditional folk performances such as road-opening ceremonies, Five Tigers Staff, stilt Yangko dance, and Zhongfan (flag-waving) are staged in rotation. Warm reminder: The scenic area opens at 7:30 AM and stops ticket sales at 4:30 PM during the fair; performances mainly conclude before noon, and daily show content may be adjusted dynamically; due to heavy traffic and crowds on site, it is recommended to travel during off-peak times. Scenic area inquiry phone: 86-10-61882936.

The park has also prepared a variety of fun activities: an early summer hiking event with two routes—a 14 km advanced trail and a 7 km leisure trail—suitable for professional outdoor enthusiasts and families with children; on May 30th from 12:00 to 15:00, the rose terraces will transform into a natural stage for a live music performance amid the sea of flowers; the Miaofeng Market gathers specialty foods, intangible cultural heritage handicrafts, and rose-themed cultural and creative products; a half-day parent-child mountain study camp allows participants to learn about alpine roses with instructors, make traditional rose jam by hand, stroll along gentle trails with kids, and receive limited edition cultural and creative gifts by joining activities.
