During the Northern Song Dynasty, General Yang Jiye and his eight sons made great contributions to safeguarding the border, stabilizing the imperial court. Mu Guiying, granddaughter-in-law of the Yang family, also rendered outstanding service. Framed by treacherous officials, she retired with She Taijun for twenty years.
When a rebellion broke out in Western Xia, the Song court had no one to resist the enemy and turned to Mu Guiying. Embittered by the court's injustice, she initially refused. But persuaded by She Taijun, she put aside personal grievances to defend her country. Together with her husband Yang Zongbao and their children, she took command, mustered her troops, and marched to the battlefield.
