2026-03-05

Known as the "First Spring Flower" in northern Chinese gardens, wintersweet is the earliest blossom to welcome spring in Beijing. Recently, wintersweet has entered its best viewing period in many parks across the city.

China National Botanical Garden

The Wofo Temple in the China National Botanical Garden (North Garden) is a famous spot for enjoying wintersweet. It has more than 100 plants of various varieties such as Suxin, Qingkou and Dogtooth wintersweet, mainly distributed around the Fangsheng Pond at the entrance and the east road of the Three-Buddha Hall. It is now in full bloom and the flowering period is expected to last until mid-March.

Xiangshan Park

There are two ideal places to appreciate wintersweet in Xiangshan Park. Meigu Valley, located on the mountain road south of Yanjing Hu (Lake), has more than 100 mountain wintersweet plants, most of which are in bloom now and will last until early March. In Biyun Temple, wintersweet is mainly planted in the Chan Courtyard and the Pagoda Courtyard. The wintersweet in front of the Chan Courtyard is in full bloom, while the Pagoda Courtyard is full of plump buds.

Summer Palace

In the Summer Palace, over ten wintersweet trees in the Lenongxuan area at the east foot of Longevity Hill are in full bloom, mainly Suxin and Dogtooth varieties, with a significantly larger number of flowers than in previous years.

Jingshan Park

Wintersweet is blooming beautifully in Jingshan Park. To the east of Qiwanglou Building, golden flowers cover the branches with a delicate fragrance. At the entrance of the West Science Park, wintersweet is in full bloom, while buds in the north of the park are gradually opening.

Beihai Park

Beihai Park is a popular destination for wintersweet lovers. The single-trunk Suxin "October Yellow" wintersweet in the West Courtyard of Yilantang on Qionghua Island and the Dogtooth wintersweet in Jingqixuan of Yongan Temple are both in full bloom.

Yuyuantan Park

More than 300 wintersweet plants of over 10 varieties along the route from the Southwest Gate to Yingluohua Valley in Yuyuantan Park are in full bloom, filling the air with a sweet fragrance until early March.

Zizhuyuan Park

Wintersweet in Zizhuyuan Park, in front of Tianxiangzhai, Jingyizhai and the palace courtyard, is now at its best viewing time, with golden blossoms matching the ancient buildings and a pleasant fragrance lingering in the air.

Beijing International Sculpture Park

In Beijing International Sculpture Park, wintersweet is blooming with golden petals on thin branches and a refreshing fragrance, offering a delightful early-spring experience.

Tips
