Savor Chinese New Year in Beijing | Temple Fairs

2026-02-10

1. Changdian Temple Fair

As a national intangible cultural heritage carrying the folk memories of old Beijing, the Changdian Temple Fair has a history of more than 400 years. When you come to the fair, you can experience intangible cultural heritage skills, visit new intangible heritage flagship stores, and watch the special exhibition for the Year of the Horse on the Liulichang Old Street filled with the fragrance of calligraphy and painting. You can also receive a handwritten "Fu" character (good fortune) from calligraphers, experiencing both the literati elegance and the Beijing-style New Year customs.

This year's Changdian Temple Fair is inspired by Chinese horse culture and creates a "Five-Flower Horse (五花马)" main visual system. In the street area, merchants hang distinctive signboards, the corridor bridge incorporates folk customs and Year of the Horse elements, and the street lights blend the ancient charm of bricks and tiles with the festive atmosphere, recreating the grand scene of the old Beijing "Wine Flags, Drums, and Changdian Market."

To ignite the Chinese New Year atmosphere in advance, the Changdian Temple Fair's Little New Year warm-up event started on February 8 and lasted until February 16 (Chinese New Year's Eve), with the main activities concentrated from February 8 to 10. The event covered core areas such as Liulichang Dongjie (E. St) and Liulichang Xijie (W. St), Huoshen Temple, Yaojiang Hutong, and Rongbaozhai, featuring 33 intangible cultural heritage projects, 24 handmade experience sessions, and 10 special performances.

Event time: February 17 - February 23

Address: Liulichang Dongjie (E. St) and Liulichang Xijie (W. St), Xicheng, Beijing

2. Ditan Spring Festival Cultural Temple Fair

The Ditan Spring Festival Cultural Temple Fair, as one of Beijing's most representative traditional temple fairs, carries rich memories of Beijing-style Chinese New Year customs. This year's Ditan Temple Fair centers on the theme "Chinese New Year · Ritual and Music (中国年·礼乐风)," using "ritual and music culture" to connect authentic performances from earth worship to intangible cultural heritage handicrafts. The fair's decoration design emphasizes the solemnity and ritual sense of traditional ritual and music culture, combining auspicious symbols and classical elements, with the boat-shaped structure symbolizing welcoming spring and good fortune, and joyful gatherings in a prosperous era.

The fair will also innovatively create "One Ceremony, Three Stages, One Scene," which is not only full of ritual sense but also gathers rich cultural and creative products and handmade goods. The three major performance stages at Ditan Temple Fair will present interactive performances featuring robots and robotic dogs, as well as magic shows, traditional lion dances, and opera performances, showcasing a modern festive style that combines technology and tradition. The "Spring Festival Gift Market" will centrally display special products such as intangible cultural heritage handicrafts from the Beijing Central Axis, making it an ideal place to select unique New Year gifts and experience the most authentic Chinese New Year atmosphere.
