On October 18, Alban Berg's opera "Wozzeck," produced by Opera Ballet Vlaanderen Belgium, will be staged at the Poly Theater. This production brings together an internationally acclaimed cast, directed by contemporary theater giant Johan Simons and led by renowned conductor Charles Dutoit. Starring baritone Robin Adams, mezzo-soprano Magdalena Hoffmann, and legendary world-class tenor Michael Schade, the performance will feature the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Philharmonic Choir, Shanghai Conservatory of Music Choir, and numerous outstanding singers. This collaboration between an international top-tier creative team and China's exceptional musical forces will achieve the Chinese premiere of this 20th-century operatic milestone with unparalleled artistic quality.

This year marks the 140th anniversary of Alban Berg's birth and the 100th anniversary of the premiere of "Wozzeck." For this occasion, the Beijing Music Festival will present the full-stage production of "Wozzeck." The set design by Sami van den Hove pushes Expressionist aesthetics to the extreme, with distorted spatial arrangements, highly character-fitting costumes, and poetic, allegorical stage direction that delves into the work's profound connotations. This new production of "Wozzeck" premiered in Belgium in June of this year, receiving acclaim from both authoritative media and audiences.
