The Shidu Scenic Area is located in Shidu, southwestern Fangshan, Beijing, approximately 80 kilometers from downtown Beijing. It is a National 4A-level Scenic Area, a National Geopark, and a designated base for rock climbing and bungee jumping training and competitions by the General Administration of Sports of China. It also serves as a base for the National Youth Geological Field Study Summer Camp.
The scenic area features a karst landscape, characterized by canyons, peak clusters, and river valley landforms, which is rare in northern China. Renowned for its karst landscapes and geological relics, it also serves as a science popularization park with a focus on youth patriotism education. The Juma He meanders through the area, flowing from northwest to southeast and winding its way around the mountains and ridges. The name "Shidu" comes from the historical requirement of crossing ten ferries when traveling from Zhangfang to Shidu along the river.
Shidu's landscape is picturesque throughout the four seasons, with scenic views at every turn. It is famously known as "Green Mountains, Wild Streams, and a Hundred-Li Gallery." The Juma He winds its way through the mountains, resembling a jade belt, beautifully complementing the surrounding peaks and forests. The landscape blends the grandeur of northern China with the delicate charm of southern river towns.
The Shidu Scenic Area is home to numerous attractions and entertainment spots, including Juma Paradise, Gushancun, the Pingxi Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall, Donghu Gang, Julong Wan, and Xianxi Shan (Mountain). It offers a variety of exciting activities such as bungee jumping, cliff diving, cable cars, rock climbing, hang gliding, rafting, pedal boats, kayaking, surfing cars, motorboats, beach baths, horseback riding, and more.
