#01 Summer Activities

Fangshan Baihuashan Scenic Area

In the midsummer season, Fangshan Baihua Shan (Mountain) has a cool climate, with an average temperature of 22 degrees, making it the best time to climb high and enjoy the scenery to escape the summer heat.

Baihua Shan (Mountain) has colorful natural landscapes and abundant ecological resources. The main peak, Pusa Peak, has an altitude of 1991 meters, gathering five major attractions of "flowers, roads, clouds, light, and temples." When hiking, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the winding mountain roads; when reaching the main peak, you can overlook the continuous mountains, as if in a fairyland on earth.

Shidu Scenic Area

Shidu is exactly what is described as "green mountains and wild crossings, a hundred-mile gallery." Shidu Scenic Area is the largest karst peak forest and canyon group in North China, famous for its "strange peaks, bizarre stones, beautiful waters, and mysterious caves." Here, you can satisfy both extreme challenges and poetic dwelling needs in one stop.

Stroll on the colorful glass skywalk at Donghu Port, overlooking the misty Juma He (River); take a leisurely walk in the air on the 131.4-meter-long suspension bridge at Shiyan Shan (Mountain), watching the clouds roll and unfold.

Explore the secluded Guoshanzhai Canyon, a geological wonder, cross the rugged riverbed, and look up at the miraculous One-Line Sky.

Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian

Since the large-scale excavation started in 1927, the Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian has discovered 27 locations with various fossils and cultural relics from different periods, including fossils of "Peking Man," new cave people, and late-stage Homo sapiens, hundreds of animal fossils, nearly one hundred thousand stone tools, and abundant human fire use remains. It was listed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in December 1987.

Zhoukoudian Site-National Archaeological Site Park

The site area has many famous fossil locations such as the Yuanren Cave, Shanding Cave, and Xindong. The Yuanren Cave was originally a natural limestone cave and is the excavation site of the skull of Peking Man; the Shanding Cave was the dwelling place of the Shanding Man, with a high-altitude platform that offers a panoramic view of the cave.

Zhoukoudian Peking Man Site Museum

Coming out of the site park, walking about 800 meters will lead you to the museum. The museum has a total of seven exhibition halls, showcasing not only famous skull models, various animal fossils, and stone tools but also providing knowledge about human evolution. The museum features 3D animations, simulated excavations, and other interactive educational projects.

Fangshan Cave Group

The Fangshan Cave Group is a typical representation of karst caves in the northern temperate semi-arid climate of China, with high aesthetic value, known as the "Underground Karst Art Museum." Among them, the Shihua Cave has the most cave layers, the most complete sediment types, and the richest geological resources in the country, with ten wonders and five national superlatives inside, earning it the titles of "Beijing's Underground Pearl," "Hall of Karst Caves," and "Karst Cave Museum."

The "Sky Pillar" stalagmite in Yunsui Cave reaches a height of 38 meters, making it the tallest in Asia and the third tallest in the world.

The "Silver Fox Head" stalactite in Yinhu Cave is lifelike, making visitors feel like they have entered a fantastic underground kingdom.

Rowing through the deep underground waterway at a depth of 108 meters, crossing a 1500-meter underground river by boat, provides an exhilarating experience.

Yunju Temple and Shijing Shan (Mountain)

Yunju Temple houses over 30,000 pieces of stone, paper, and wooden artifacts, with over 10,000 stone-carved classics being its most famous collection, making it the world's largest stone-carved library and listed in the sixth batch of the "China Archive and Document Heritage List."

Shijing Shan (Mountain) is the birthplace of Fangshan stone scriptures, containing 4,196 editions of scriptures from the Sui and Tang dynasties, with eight scripture caves, China's earliest artificially constructed Buddhist temple, as well as historical relics such as the Jinxian Princess Pagoda, a thousand-year-old stone-carved ancient well, and Sui and Tang stone inscriptions. The original historical appearance is still preserved, with the Leiyin Cave open for visitation.

The two scenic areas are only 1.5 kilometers apart, allowing visitors to explore stone carvings, Tang and Liao ancient pagodas (Yunju Temple has 7 Tang pagodas and 5 Liao pagodas), and hidden mountain landscapes all in one day.

#02 Local Delicacies

Fangshan Intangible Cultural Heritage Banquet

The Fangshan Intangible Cultural Heritage Banquet is launched by Tianyu Villa, including 7 inheritors of intangible cultural heritage in Fangshan District and 18 characteristic ingredients representing villages and towns, offering over 40 specialty dishes such as Daokou Roast Chicken, Suzao Meat, and Sunflower Big Chopped Meat. During the cooking process, the intangible cultural heritage product Chongyi Clay Pot from Chongyi Village in Hancun River Town, Fangshan, is specially used as a cooking utensil.

Yunling Shanfang
