The exhibition "Inheritance and Innovation in Official-Style Chinese Architectural Polychrome Painting" officially opened to the public at the Yongshou Palace Exhibition Hall of the Palace Museum on the 27th. The exhibition selected 43 representative works of Chinese official architectural color paintings from the Sui Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, including rubbings and color painting samples, with some exhibits being displayed to the public for the first time.
This exhibition brings together precious collections and academic achievements from the Palace Museum, Dunhuang Research Institute, China Academy of Cultural Heritage, Tsinghua University School of Architecture "The Memorial Hall of the Society for the Study of Chinese Architecture," Tianjin University School of Architecture, and other museums, research institutions, and universities. It introduces the academic concept of "Da Caihua" for the first time, connecting the colored ceiling paintings, wall decorations, and cave eave paintings from the Tang and Song periods of the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang with the official color paintings of the Ming and Qing dynasties into an organic whole, revealing the historical development of Chinese architectural polychrome painting.
The exhibition is scheduled to continue until August 26th.
