On May 18, the opening ceremony of the main event of International Museum Day 2025 in China was held at the Beijing Grand Canal Museum. During the opening ceremony, the inaugural Beijing Museum Season was launched, unveiling the "Exhibition Serious on the Origins of Chinese Civilization - This is the Shang."
The "This is the Shang" exhibition presents a panoramic view of the Yin and Shang cultures, revealing the secrets of the Yin and Shang civilizations. It is one of the largest exhibitions of the Shang Dynasty civilization in recent years, showcasing 338 precious artifacts (sets) from 28 archaeological and cultural units nationwide. The exhibition runs from May 19 to October 12. The exhibits cover many achievements of the "Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries in China," with many items making their debut appearance in Beijing. Visitors can see numerous representative artifacts from sites such as the Yin Xu in Anyang, the Qingjianzhai Gou in Shaanxi, and the Tanhe Li in Ningxiang, Hunan.
During the inaugural Beijing Museum Season, various districts are also competing to launch a variety of exciting themed activities. Chaoyang fully leverages the advantage of being a city of museums and, in collaboration with the Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau, will host a heavyweight cultural and creative event in July as part of the Cultural and Creative Month. They will sequentially carry out activities such as the "Beijing Summer Cultural and Creative Carnival" and a themed market for collecting stamps to promote cultural and creative consumption. Haidian is preparing four major series of activities with themes such as "cross-border, AI innovation, light and shadow, and scientific exploration."
