On March 17th, the 2025 Beijing Tulip Cultural Festival and the 30th Spring Flower and Tulip Cultural Festival at Zhongshan Park officially kicked off in Beijing, China.
Tulips originated in regions such as the Tianshan Mountains, Central Asia, Western Asia, and the Mediterranean coast. They were introduced to the European continent through the ancient Silk Road and quickly gained favor with people from various countries due to their unique charm and beauty. Tulips have become the national flower of countries like the Netherlands and Turkey, and are cherished and loved by people around the world. Every spring, tulips sway in the spring breeze, offering a splendid floral feast for citizens and tourists.
Zhongshan Park is not only the solemn location of royal altars in the Ming and Qing dynasties, but also one of the first gardens in Beijing opened to the public. This piece of land, carrying the genes of Chinese civilization, has always witnessed the integration and coexistence of Chinese and foreign civilizations with an open and inclusive attitude. In 1977, tulip bulbs gifted by the Queen of the Netherlands took root in Zhongshan Park, symbolizing the deep friendship between China and the Netherlands. Since then, Zhongshan Park and tulips have formed an inseparable bond. After decades of careful cultivation and exhibitions, the Tulip Cultural Festival at Zhongshan Park has been held for 30 consecutive years, becoming an indispensable floral event in Beijing's spring.
This year's Spring Flower and Tulip Cultural Festival at Zhongshan Park will last for 45 days and feature 7 main themed areas, showcasing a total of 95 varieties of tulips and other bulb flowers, totaling 180,000 plants, with an exhibition area of 4000 square meters. The best viewing period is expected in early April. The park has 3 variety display areas, exhibiting a rich variety of tulips from both domestic and international sources, including 20 varieties making their debut.
During the cultural festival, there will be a special exhibition titled "Witnessing 30 Years of Zhongshan - Tulip Special Exhibition," which will review the development of the tulip flower exhibition at Zhongshan Park over the past 30 years. It will showcase important historical items and highlight the wonderful moments from previous tulip flower exhibitions. Additionally, through floral art pieces and potted plant combinations, over 60 varieties of tulips and other bulbous ornamental flowers, totaling nearly 10,000 plants, will be on display. Furthermore, the park will collaborate with the World Tulip Association and the Dutch IGMPR Flower Culture and Creative Company to jointly host the "Tulip Journey" exhibition, focusing on global tulip culture. Renowned scholars from the Netherlands and Turkey will be invited to narrate the legendary history of tulips from their origins in Central Asia to their global spread.
During the event, the park will launch a tulip-themed cultural market for the first time, covering three major categories: intangible cultural heritage, Chinese style handicrafts, and food. Tulip derivative products, light snacks and beverages, and handicrafts will be introduced, cleverly combining with tulip culture to provide visitors with an immersive tour and diverse experiences. The park will also collaborate with multiple cultural institutions and companies to develop tulip-themed products such as postcards, fridge magnets, and stamp books, combining the natural and cultural elements of Zhongshan Park. These products not only have ornamental value but also practical and collectible value, allowing visitors to take home beautiful memories of Zhongshan Park.
In addition, the Huifang Garden Exhibition Hall will also hold the "Elegance and Fragrance of Huilan, Fragrance in Four Seasons" boutique orchid exhibition, showcasing more than 90 varieties and over 200 pots of exquisite orchids. The park will also hold exhibitions such as the "Zhongshan Park History Exhibition", the "Zhu Qiqian Memorial Exhibition" at Yixizhai, and the Red Revolutionary Site Interpretation Activities at Laijinyuxuan Tea Society, creating an unforgettable spring cultural feast for visitors.
During the Tulip Cultural Festival, we will strengthen tulip cultural exchanges and cooperation with the Netherlands and Turkey through the World Tulip Association. By jointly organizing exhibitions, exchange seminars, cultural dissemination, and other forms, we will make Beijing, this ancient city, a bridge connecting different countries and cultures, highlighting its important role as a world cultural exchange center. This will further promote the construction of the capital's garden city and add more splendid colors to the city.
The "Beijing Tulip Cultural Festival 2025" has multiple exhibition areas, including Zhongshan Park, National Botanical Garden (North Garden), Beijing International Flower Port, Beijing World Flower Wonderland Park, Sun Park, and Changyang Park, etc. The exhibition period is from March 17th to the end of May. During this period, various exhibition areas will hold a variety of colorful tulip cultural theme activities, through showcasing special varieties, creating family gardening application scenarios, promoting tulip and other bulb family gardening products, parent-child interactions, popular science propaganda, and other forms, leading citizens and tourists to immerse themselves in the unique charm of tulips, experience the influence and nourishment of flower culture, and inject new vitality and momentum into the construction of Beijing as a garden city.
