On March 13, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced the fourth batch of national-level tourism and leisure blocks list, and the Moshikou Historical and Cultural Block in Shijingshan District made the list.
Moshikou (模式口), originally named "Moshikou (磨石口)," got its name from the abundant production of bluestone grinding stones. Moshikou was famous during the Ming and Qing dynasties, located on the Camel Bell Ancient Road where merchants and travelers gathered. Moshikou Street is 1500 meters long, running east to west, with many historical relics, cultural treasures, ancient residences, and courtyards in the block. Tracing the "Tuoling Ancient Road," recalling the past prosperity of Moshikou, tracing the folk culture of western Beijing, and deeply experiencing the unique charm of the folk culture of western Beijing.
Tuoling Ancient Road
The Tuoling Ancient Road in Moshikou is the starting point of the ancient road in western Beijing. The ancient road in western Beijing is mainly the "West Mountain Road," connecting various north-south main and branch roads, with the hub of the central and northern roads being the Tuoling Ancient Road running through Moshikou Street, combining five functions of commercial road, incense road, military road, secret road, and cultural road.
In order to accommodate merchants traveling on the ancient road, a large number of shops were built on the streets of Moshikou. Moshikou was most prosperous from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China era and enjoyed a great reputation in western Beijing.
Fahai Temple
On the southern slope of Cuwei Mountain in Shijing Mountain, there is an ancient temple called Fahai Temple, which not only has the solemnity of a temple but also preserves the peak works of Ming Dynasty murals, attracting many tourists to come and take photos.
Fahai Temple faces north and sits south, with the halls built according to the mountain terrain, stacked up. The temple has a clear axis, a regular courtyard layout, forming a pattern of four courtyards.
The murals in the Main Hall of the temple are renowned for their exquisite painting art, superb craftsmanship, and distinct era characteristics, known as the "treasure of the country." The murals are painted using meticulous brushwork and rich colors, with a unique artistic style and abundant cultural connotations, making them one of the magnificent cultural treasures of western Beijing.
Tianyi Tomb (Shijingshan Stone Carving Museum)
The Shijingshan Stone Carving Museum houses a large number of precious stone carvings and stone sculptures with a long history and rich content. The stone carvings are simple and realistic, with clever layouts. Mr. Shu Yi once said, "The stone carvings of Tianyi Tomb are the Oriental Pearl, the pinnacle of classical Chinese stone carving decorative art, a national treasure, very lovely."
There are three exhibition areas in the park: the Tianyi Tomb Exhibition Area, the Indoor Exhibition Area, and the Scattered Stone Carving Exhibition Area. The Tianyi Tomb is the only preserved and most exquisite Ming Dynasty eunuch tomb discovered so far, with highly unique architectural features. The Indoor Fine Stone Carving Exhibition Area showcases a selection of representative stone artifacts from the museum's collection spanning two thousand years from the Eastern Han Dynasty to the present. The Field Scattered Stone Carving Exhibition Area exhibits scattered stone carvings unearthed in the Shijingshan area, with a grand entrance in the form of a stone archway.
China Quaternary Glacial Vestige Exhibition Hall
The China Quaternary Glacial Vestige Exhibition Hall is a natural science museum built on glacier relics. The Moshikou Glacier abrasion marks found here were formed during the Quaternary Ice Age approximately 3 million years ago, as a result of the friction between the gravel and stones carried by moving glaciers and the bedrock of the mountains.
The entire hall is divided into 12 exhibition halls, including sections on "What is a Glacier," "Human Evolution Process," "Quaternary Glaciers and Human Relations," and "Abrasion Mark Protection Zone Exhibition Hall." The exhibition halls are equipped with multimedia devices combining light, sound, and motion to help visitors understand glacier knowledge. They are complemented by physical objects or models such as beautiful "ice mushrooms," mysterious turtleback stones, towering mammoths, and unique dinosaur fossils, allowing visitors to appreciate the unique charm of prehistoric creatures.
Moshikou Visitor Service Center
The Moshikou Visitor Service Center is located at the east entrance of Moshikou Dajie (St), serving as the "image window" of the Moshikou Historical and Cultural Block. It provides diversified services such as historical and cultural explanations of the block, tourism consultations, distribution of promotional materials, and displays of cultural and creative products to meet the various needs of visitors.
The "Organic Renewal Achievements Exhibition of Moshikou Historical and Cultural Block" in the center leads visitors to a deeper understanding of the process and results of the organic renewal of Moshikou through rich graphic, video materials, and interactive displays. "Longwang Temple Square" is located in the core area of Moshikou Dajie (St). The internationally renowned designer and his team are responsible for the architectural design, cleverly integrating the traditional architectural style of Moshi Kou area into a modern art space, embodying the grandeur of Chinese architecture and the spatial aesthetics of modern art. Using modern digital technology to empower culture, it presents a immersive digital art museum at Fahai Temple Mural that is rooted in tradition, cultural heritage, and oriented towards the future.
The Fahai Temple Mural Art Museum has a building area of approximately 1800 square meters and is a new type of art venue that integrates cultural exhibitions, cultural tourism leisure, art academic salons, and business exchanges. Based on the academic research of experts and scholars, nearly a hundred images of cultural relics and cave murals from museums around the world are used for exhibition. "Jing·199 Courtyard" is a two-entry quadrangle dwelling in the style of Beijing's western quadrangle courtyards, preserving the original old northern house and traditional old doorways. It creates a boutique cultural courtyard that combines popular water bars, courtyard-style bars, small salon releases, news forum activities, and boutique mountain area homestay experiences.

Xia Er Artistic Life +
"Xia Er Artistic Life+", located at No. 86 Modoukou Dajie (St), was originally the site of the "Hengdecheng Cloth Store" during the period of the Republic of China, with a building age of around one hundred years. The "mountain wall" design and chessboard-style roof typical of Modoukou's local architecture have been preserved, with the storefront retaining its appearance from a century ago as a tribute to the former "Hengdecheng Cloth Store."
The interior focuses on organizing and activating space, introducing innovative art and cultural formats, and creating a social experiential space that combines art venues, handicraft workshops, cafes, and bars. Here, professional services are provided such as art appreciation and trading, handicraft workshop experiences, themed salons, small exhibitions, concerts, and themed parties.
Meishan No. 51
