When it comes to the MGM classic film Singin' in the Rain, the splashing raindrops, lively song-and-dance numbers, and unique nostalgic atmosphere always leave people wanting more. This time, Singin' in the Rain has been brought to the Beijing stage, shining once again in the form of a musical. From February 14 to 27, the original West End production of Singin' in the Rain will have 16 performances at the Beijing Performing Arts Centre. On February 11, the creative team attended a press event to introduce the highlights of the production.

Creative Team Discusses the Adaptation: The Musical Will Retain the Essence of the Film
Since its world premiere in 2012, the West End musical Singin' in the Rain has consistently been voted the most popular film musical by audiences and has received four Olivier Award nominations, earning numerous industry accolades. The musical retains and recreates the best-loved songs and dances from the film, such as Good Morning, Moses Supposes, and Singin' in the Rain. At the same time, the creative team has innovatively expressed the visuals, using the iconic vibrant neon lights from the film, retro glamorous costumes, and modern lighting and mechanical special effects to create a stunning performance. The stage uses a total of six tons of water to create the rain curtain.

Beijing Performing Arts Centre Continues to Push Forward in Bringing Classic Musicals
With a differentiated operational philosophy, the Beijing Performing Arts Centre, as an important branch of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, continues to make strides in the musical theatre arena. Zhao Fei, Deputy Director of the Performance Department of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, introduced that when selecting works to bring in, "We prioritize the most classic works, such as the West End original Cats that was staged last November, and distinctive productions like Singin' in the Rain." Soon, the musical Sunset BLVD., starring top soprano Sarah Brightman, will begin its national tour at the Beijing Performing Arts Centre, and Shrek the Musical is expected to be presented during the summer. "In the future, we also plan to introduce newly staged Broadway and West End productions, so Beijing audiences can enjoy the finest international performances," said Zhao Fei.
