Guide to Happy Ice and Snow Season at Yuanmingyuan Park

2025-01-06

The fourth Happy Ice and Snow Season (第四届欢乐冰雪季) of the Yuanmingyuan Park in 2025 has recently kicked off, bringing a carnival of ice and snow that combines fun, culture, and sports to the general public and tourists.

As a royal palace garden that has experienced five generations of emperors in the Qing Dynasty, the Yuanmingyuan Park carries rich historical and cultural heritage. Dancing with ice and snow has been a tradition since ancient times. As the favorite winter activity of the Qing emperors, Emperor Qianlong personally wrote a poem of over 1,300 words called "Bingxi Fu" and made ice activities a national custom of the Qing Dynasty, demonstrating his emphasis and love for ice and snow sports. Today, this tradition has been revived, and the Yuanmingyuan Park has designed a series of carefully planned activities, hoping to let every visitor feel the weight of history and the warmth of culture.

The fourth Happy Ice and Snow Season of the Yuanmingyuan Park in 2025 fully relies on this unique advantage to create a distinctive ice and snow paradise for visitors. Compared with previous years, this year's ice and snow season is full of highlights.

This year, the snowfield activity area of the Yuanmingyuan Park is set up at the Songfengluoyue Hu (Lake). The snowfield area has been further expanded to about 22,000 square meters, providing visitors with a wider activity space. A 32-meter-long, 80-meter-wide, and 6-meter-high snow platform with a total of 46 slides has been built in the snowfield, allowing up to 46 people to slide at the same time, letting children and adults alike enjoy the excitement of rushing down the snow slope and experience the speed and passion of the snow.

In addition to the fun projects such as snow wave ball, snow train, and snow turntable in the snowfield this year, a curling experience area has been newly added. Curling is known as the "chess on ice," which tests the physical and mental abilities of the participants and is also a good opportunity to showcase the beauty of movement and decision-making. It can also allow visitors to fully experience the charm of the Winter Olympics, increasing the fun and interaction of the ice and snow season.

The ice rink is still an important part of the ice and snow season. The original plan was to set up the ice rink in the Fuhai area of the Yuanmingyuan Park, covering an area of about 80,000 square meters, and providing traditional projects such as single-person bobsled, double-person bobsled, and ice bicycles. However, this year, due to the high temperature, the ice rink is temporarily closed to the public for safety reasons. The specific opening time will depend on the temperature and weather conditions, and will be further determined after the ice thickness reaches the operating standards.

Friendly reminder:

1. The Yuanmingyuan Park snowfield is open from January 1, 2025 to February 4, 2025, from 8:30 to 17:00.

2. During the Happy Ice and Snow Season of the Yuanmingyuan Park, the park admission fee remains unchanged. The snowfield has an admission fee of 30 yuan/person, and some projects require separate tickets. This year, the snowfield promotes combo tickets with higher cost performance. The ice rink does not charge admission fees, but charges by project. If you bring your own ice skates, you need to purchase a separate ticket, which costs 50 yuan/person (unlimited time).

3. Travel Tips: It is recommended that everyone travel during off-peak hours and take the subway line 4 to get off at the Yuanmingyuan Station; you can also take public transportation such as Bus 331, 332, 508, 584, etc. to reach the South Gate of Yuanmingyuan.

4. To ensure the safety of the park, please do not step on the ice and play in non-ice and snow activity areas.
