Shichahai belongs to the historical and cultural preservation area of Beijing, adjacent to the central axis. It is the largest and most well-preserved historical block within Beijing city, and is the endpoint of the Grand Canal. It is also known as the "golden business card" of Beijing's old city waterfront culture. Shichahai is divided into three water areas and adjacent areas: Qianhai, Houhai, and Xihai (also known as Jishuitan), which correspond to the "first three seas" and are commonly referred to as the "last three seas". Shichahai is also written as "Ten Temples Lake" because there were originally ten Buddhist temples surrounding it.
Shichahai has appeared in many films and TV dramas. In the 1999 hit TV drama "Where the Dream Begins", Xiaohui played by Tao Hong skates towards the center of the ice rink and proudly says, "The water from the Five Lakes and Four Seas is not as beautiful as the ice rink in Shichahai." In the 2004 drama "Bloody Romance", Zhong Yuemin's superb skating skills on the Shichahai ice rink left a lasting impression on viewers.
In the 2015 popular movie "Mr. Six", Lao Liu walks around the ice rink at Houhai with his hands behind his back, sometimes turning sideways, sometimes leaping into the air, making it seem like he's strolling through a market. He looks so cool... These scenes from films and TV dramas perfectly capture the love for the Shichahai ice rink.
The tradition of winter skating in Beijing dates back to the Qing Dynasty. The Eight Banners, who originated from outside the Great Wall, brought the ice games from the cold regions into the capital, becoming a national custom. Every year around the Laba Festival, the Eight Banners' descendants would hold a "Ice Games Ceremony" in the Forbidden City. Skilled skaters wearing sheepskin hats and wielding ice skates would glide across the ice rink from afternoon until nightfall, with lights twinkling romantically on the ice rink...
Today's Shichahai ice rink no longer has the "blood and guts" and the atmosphere of the rivers and lakes of the past, but it is still full of joy. It is still a lively and bustling ice rink that people are reluctant to leave.
This year, the Shichahai ice rink will continue to open both the Qianhai and Houhai ice rinks at the same time. The Qianhai ice rink covers an area of 60,000 square meters, while the Houhai ice rink covers an area of 100,000 square meters. In order to enhance the visitors' experience, the Shichahai ice rink has been re-divided into seven areas: ice football area, public activity area, children's entertainment area, professional speed skating area, ice skate area, ice sled area, and ice hockey area.
The Shichahai ice rink this year provides 800 pairs of disinfected ice skates and 1,000 ice sleds, the largest number in history, to alleviate the waiting time for visitors in previous years. In addition, the ice rink has carefully set up more than ten ice entertainment facilities, such as ice bicycles, ice motorcycles, and ice slides, as well as children's castles, ice sled seals, and ice bumper cars.
This year, Shichahai Ice Rink has added ice dragon boats and ice carnival costume parties. Among them, the ice dragon boat is a large ice vehicle that can accommodate four people at the same time, which is very suitable for families to skate together. There are two types of ice vehicles, one is dragon-shaped with two colors, red and yellow, similar to traditional dragon boats; the other is a pink pig-shaped ice vehicle, in line with the Year of the Pig zodiac. The ice carnival costume party is a periodic event where actors wear ice skates and costumes to perform dance programs on the ice, bringing more fun to tourists.
Qianhai Ice Rink will also open at night, from 6 pm to 9:30 pm every night.
The ice vehicle area and the skating area here are separate, with three areas and three ticket windows, each managing their own area. The three ticket windows are very close to each other, which is very convenient.
There are two areas for ice vehicles, and tickets are sold at windows 1 and 3. The ticket price is 70 yuan during normal days and 80 yuan during holidays. After buying the ticket at the window, you will be given a card and a paper ticket. When entering the ice rink, you need to hand the magnetic card ticket to the management staff. The paper ticket is for the ice slide. After entering, you can play with the ice vehicles and ice bikes as you like. However, you cannot re-enter after leaving.
Skating tickets are purchased at the middle window, with a ticket price of 40 yuan (30 yuan from Monday to Friday), ice skate rental of 30 yuan, and a deposit of 100 yuan. When returning the ice skates, you will get your deposit back. You will also be given a magnetic card ticket, which you need to present to collect your ice skates. When entering the rink, the ticket will be scanned once. Do not lose this ticket, as you will need it to return the ice skates and get your deposit back.
