The previously imaginary concept of digital humans has now become real. Digital humans, backed by artificial intelligence, have appeared in real life as virtual presenters, streamers, and shop assistants. According to the Digital Human Base in the Chaoyang District in Beijing,the base has attractedforty-nine digital human enterprisesto its facilityby the 13th of November 2024.
In the futuristic exhibition hall of Beijing Digital Human Base, variousdigital humans are built withinteresting personalities and they can interact with the audience naturally and seamlessly. The 3D digital human technology brought Teresa Teng's image and her voiceback to life. Moreover, the digital human, the poet Su Shi, can chat with the audiences about ancient poems without obstacles, thanks to theintegration of cutting-edge technologies in multiple fields.
"Digital Human is one of Beijing's benchmark products, which will leadthe new business format of the next iteration of the internetand promote the high-quality development of Beijing's information software industry. Digital human technology is the key toWeb 3.0," said Li Yan, the Division Director ofthe No.1 industry division of the Management Committee of Chaoyang Park in the Zhongguancun Science Park.
Digital humansare an important subdivision of Web 3.0 and a new digital economy format jointly nurtured by a new iteration of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation. Based on the cultivation model ofservice platforms, carrier spaces, service systems, and industrial funds, the Beijing Digital Human Base organises the core technology research of digital humans. It aims to deepen integration with digital humans and industry scenarios across vertical fields and actively build an open digital human industry ecology to achieve mutual benefits.
Four generic technology platforms, built by the Beijing Digital Human Base in terms of digital human and content production,have been put into use at present. They are a large-spaced XR technology testing centre for multiple users, a one-stop integrated application platform for digital human motion capture and XR virtual shooting, a generic technology platform for high-fidelity digital human acquisition, and a digital human trusted evidence management platform."All enterprises in the base can use these four platforms at a rate lower than the market price", said Yang Yuan, the deputy general manager ofthe base operator, Beijing Intelligent Flow Cloud (IFC).Small and medium-sized enterprises can, thus, lowertheir innovation andresearch and developmentcosts.
Additionally, the base has completed the construction ofpublic spaces, including exhibition halls and shared incubation centres. It cooperateswith ModalScope,an open-source AI model community by Alibaba DAMO Academy, aiming to promote the construction of an open-source AI model community in Mandarin and lower the threshold of AI applications.
