The regulations of Zhengyangmen Gate are the most unique among all the gates in the capital. It is 43.65 meters high, and the arrow tower in front of the gate is more magnificent than other arrow towers.

Since its construction, Zhengyangmen Gate has been damaged several times due to wars or fires, and has been constantly repaired. Because the original engineering files were burned, a major renovation during the Guangxu period had to be rebuilt according to the style of Chongwenmen and Xuanwumen Gates, but the height and width were increased. During the Republic of China period, Zhu Qiqian, the Minister of the Interior, invited German architects to renovate Zhengyang Gate, demolishing the wengcheng and adding a "Z"-shaped ramp to the arrow tower.

Nowadays, the city gate and arrow tower of Zhengyang Gate that we see are the result of multiple repairs based on the Ming and Qing dynasties. Later, with the transformation of the old city of Beijing, the other eight city gates and city towers were gradually demolished, and only Zhengyangmen Gate was preserved.

On the day I went, I took the subway from Qianmen Station and came out of Exit A, with the city tower of Zhengyangmen Gate behind me. After the rain, colorful clouds floated in the sky, and the three-layered dripping water shape of the city tower was particularly magnificent. The gilded color paintings on the city tower, the red columns, and the green glazed tiles formed a colorful picture. Due to the obstruction of Qianmen Dongdajie(St), the arrow tower of Zhengyangmen Gate is on the other side of the road. The most eye-catching feature of the arrow tower is the white railing, which looks like a turned-up skirt. I wanted to take a photo of the two of them together, but I had to walk through the underground passage and take the photo from a distance.

In a major renovation launched in 2005, a copper disc sign was added to the city tower of Zhengyangmen Gate as the starting point of Beijing Central Axis, with the Qianmen longitude and latitude and the distance from Zhengyangmen Gate to Yongdingmen Gate, Tian'anmen and the Hall of Supreme Harmony measured by satellite positioning engraved on it.

After seeing the grandeur of Zhengyangmen Gate, you can start strolling along Qianmen Dajie(St). During the Ming Yongle period, in order to prosper the market and expand tax sources, commercial storefronts were built outside all the city gates in Beijing, but only those at the foot of Qianmen became popular. Nowadays, Qianmen has been transformed into a new era of Beijing's cultural experience block, with old-fashioned famous stores such as Ruifuxiang, Wuyutai, and Daoxiangcun, as well as the new "Beijing Fun".

The city tower and arrow tower of Zhengyangmen Gate are located on the north and south sides of Qianmen Dongdajie(St) respectively. If you take the subway, you need to exit from different subway exits. If you take the wrong exit, it will be more troublesome to get around.
