The giant panda house at Beijing Zoo has completed renovations and reopened today. From October 28 to November 1, the giant panda house was closed for 5 days to adjust the facilities in the sports field. After the renovation, the home of "Meng Lan" has changed significantly.

The giant panda house at Beijing Zoo, as a popular venue, attracts many visitors every year. Currently, there are 11 giant pandas raised in the house, with 9 being exhibited to the public. In order to continuously improve the welfare level of giant pandas and eliminate safety hazards, since 2020, Beijing Zoo has been adjusting the environment of animal sports fields and exhibition halls every year to enhance the novelty of the animals.

Lu Yanping, the head of the breeding team at Beijing Zoo, introduced: "The closure and renovation mainly involved the transformation of enrichment facilities in the sports field, including the size adjustment, addition, and reinforcement of perches based on the daily use of animals, setting up slides, water hose woven beds, tire branch groups, and interactive solid piles, focusing on the interactivity, comfort, and fun of the enrichment facilities." Reporter saw that the specifications, connection methods, and overall structure of the enrichment facilities in the giant panda outdoor sports field are different, all of which are "custom-made" according to the individual differences of the animals and the actual situation of the sports field. "For example, 'Meng Lan' is more lively and likes to climb up and down, so the perch is built high, while 'Fu Xing' is not as active as 'Meng Lan', so the perch is built lower."

"The overall renovation is based on the complexity of the environment, the applicability of animals, the overall relevance, the observability of tourists, and the operability of personnel. Considering the applicability and safety of the enrichment facilities, the venue space is maximized to allow tourists to observe different animal behaviors from different angles. Enrichment is a dynamic work process, and we will regularly adjust the enrichment facilities. After the renovation, relevant departments will also track and re-evaluate the renovation effects and adjust them in time," Lu Yanping introduced.

Yesterday afternoon, the giant pandas were trying out the brand new venue. Reporter saw that the eyes of "Fu Xing" were attracted by the new perch, climbed to the woven bed of the water hose, and ate bamboo shoots leisurely. This soft and swaying bed is much more comfortable than the original wooden bed!

"MengEr" walked towards the newly installed slide with a cute and clumsy gait. When it arrived at the slide, it first tentatively touched the surface of the slide with its claws, as if to confirm its safety. After finding that the inclined new toy was like a backrest, it leaned against the slide and ate with great enjoyment.

The home of "Meng Lan" has also changed significantly, with a larger woven bed, more toys, and a new large slide. I believe "Meng Lan" will definitely like it.
