To summarize the experiences and practices of urban renewal, Chaoyang District took the lead in carrying out a "typical urban renewal project health assessment" based on spatiotemporal big data nationwide. The assessment results were released at the closing ceremony.
Ma Hongjie, Director of the Chaoyang Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, introduced that since 2022, a total of 30 projects in Chaoyang District have been awarded various honors such as "Best Practices in Beijing's Urban Renewal". The assessment results show that the projects have three distinct overall characteristics. First, the types of projects are comprehensive, with industrial projects having a prominent advantage, accounting for nearly sixty percent of the typical projects; second, the distribution of projects is reasonable, fitting the overall commercial consumption space planning layout and zoning planning spatial structure of the district; third, the government plays a significant role, and market entities are actively involved, with market entities leading in more than sixty percent of the award-winning projects.
The urban renewal of Chaoyang is highly distinctive. The assessment results show that after the urban renewal, nearly forty percent of the projects achieved spatial functional transformation, with over eighty percent increase in functional mixing; many projects have carried out ecological transformation of public spaces, building the city in the garden; urban renewal has also improved the business environment, such as the WangjingHuacai project, which completed multi-regulation opinion audits in just half a year.

"We are doing a good job in the 'second half' of the construction of the Liangma River International Style Waterfront," said Wang Chengzhi, Director of the Chaoyang Water Affairs Bureau. Recently, the Liangma River pioneered the Platinum Palace Lock ultra-high-definition nude-eye 3D art experience space; cultural enhancement projects have been implemented to create the Liangma River International Sculpture Exchange Center. The Liangma River route will extend to the river section below the Four Ring Road, and after the 18-kilometer world-class water tourism boutique route is opened, tourists can take a boat directly to Beijing's sub-center.
The Liangma River Cultural and Economic Belt, according to the principle of "overall planning and phased implementation", will promote key projects in three phases. The relevant person in charge of the Chaoyang Cultural and Tourism Group introduced the relevant situation. The first phase will shape a continuous waterfront commercial interface and innovate the "day coffee, night wine" consumption scenario. The second phase mainly focuses on Chaoyang Park, and has completed the opening and operation of points such as the Pop Land, Goldfish Corridor, Swan Home and Ark Lake. The third phase focuses on the Liuli Bay project, creating a metropolitan boundaryless water park.
Tonghui Canal, Beixiaohe River, Bahekou flood storage area, Qingnianlu Ditch, Daliushu Branch Ditch and other waterfront spaces will also be launched one after another. Taking the Beixiaohe River waterfront space as an example, it will benefit 14 communities and 60,000 residents, and is expected to be completed next year.
Projects such as Beijing Taikoo Place are accelerating construction.
According to statistics, the urban renewal potential space of Chaoyang is about 148 square kilometers, accounting for one-fifth of the city. In the future, more projects will accelerate construction. "We use a large renewal strategy to achieve the effect of a beautiful Chaoyang and achieve the purpose of large-scale investment attraction," said Ren Chao, Deputy Mayor of Chaoyang, at the closing ceremony, saying that the high-quality space after renewal can provide a carrying space for the development of new quality productive forces.
Indigo opened in 2012, located in Jiangtai Township, is currently building a second-phase project and is renamed Beijing TaikooPlace as a whole. "The project will be delivered in two years, becoming the first TaikooPlace in Chinese mainland," said the person in charge of the Taikoo Group, introducing that after the completion of the expansion, the total construction area of the project will increase to 860,000 square meters, including 8 Grade A office buildings, a shopping center, and a fashion hotel and serviced apartments. "Unlike traditional super high-rise office buildings, Beijing Taikoo Place will connect each office building and commercial area with a skywalk."
Beijing TaikooPlace is adjacent to the Bahe River, and after the completion of the Bahe River waterfront space, it will be connected to business districts such as Langyuan Station by greenways. "We believe that under the guidance of various policies of the government departments, Beijing TaikooPlace will create a brand new riverfront vitality center that combines a variety of industries, consumption, leisure tourism and ecological health," said the person in charge.
On the same day, a new batch of urban renewal projects was launched, such as the SanlitunBeijie(St) No.81 project, Wangjing Huacai Commercial Center, Guangqulu(Rd) No.31 Jiulong Mall JD MALL, etc.
